The essential solvent for peptide research
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. It inhibits bacterial growth, making it the gold standard for reconstituting lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides in research settings.
The 0.9% benzyl alcohol concentration prevents microbial contamination, allowing multi-dose use over 28 days — unlike sterile water which must be discarded after a single use.
Formulated to maintain peptide stability during and after reconstitution. The low preservative concentration won't denature or degrade sensitive research compounds.
Manufactured under strict GMP conditions and meets USP standards for purity, sterility, and endotoxin levels. Each lot is tested and certified.
Don't compromise your research
Lyophilized peptides must be dissolved in a suitable solvent before use. Bacteriostatic water is the standard diluent recommended for most peptide research protocols.
The benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits bacterial and fungal growth, keeping your reconstituted solution safe for repeated access over its 28-day window.
Multi-use capability means you don't need a new vial for every dose. One vial of BAC water can reconstitute multiple peptide vials, reducing overall research costs.
Consistent, pharmaceutical-grade solvent ensures your peptide concentrations are accurate and your research results are reproducible.
Step-by-step guide for proper preparation
You'll need: bacteriostatic water vial, peptide vial, alcohol swabs, and an appropriate syringe with needle.
Wipe the rubber stoppers of both the BAC water vial and the peptide vial with alcohol swabs. Allow to air dry for 10 seconds.
Technical details and certifications
Keep your supply safe and effective
15-30°C (59-86°F)
Store unopened vials at controlled room temperature. No refrigeration required until after reconstitution with peptides.
Protect from light
Keep vials in their original packaging or a dark storage area. Prolonged light exposure can degrade benzyl alcohol.
Until expiration date
Unopened vials are stable until the printed expiration date. Once punctured, use within 28 days.
28 days max
Important information for safe handling
Always use aseptic technique when handling bacteriostatic water. Work in a clean environment and sanitize all surfaces.
Never reuse needles or syringes. Use a new sterile needle each time you access a vial to prevent contamination.
Dispose of used needles in an approved sharps container. Never throw loose needles in regular waste bins.
This product is intended for research and laboratory use only. Follow all institutional guidelines and protocols.
Common questions about bacteriostatic water
Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows multi-dose use for up to 28 days. Sterile water for injection contains no preservative and must be used immediately after opening — any remaining solution must be discarded. For peptide reconstitution, bacteriostatic water is strongly preferred because it keeps the reconstituted solution safe for repeated access.
The amount depends on your desired concentration. Common protocols use 1mL or 2mL per peptide vial. Using 1mL gives you a more concentrated solution (fewer units per dose), while 2mL creates a more dilute solution (easier to measure small doses). Always refer to your specific research protocol for the recommended reconstitution volume.
Reconstituted peptides in bacteriostatic water should be stored in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (36-46°F) and used within 28 days. The benzyl alcohol preservative keeps the solution safe from microbial contamination during this window. Some peptides may degrade faster than others, so always check your specific peptide's stability data.
Bacteriostatic water is compatible with the vast majority of research peptides. It works with all peptide products in our catalog. In rare cases where a peptide is sensitive to benzyl alcohol, the product documentation will specify an alternative reconstitution solvent.
Unopened bacteriostatic water should be stored at room temperature (15-30°C / 59-86°F) away from light. Refrigeration is not required for the water itself. However, once you've used it to reconstitute a peptide, the reconstituted solution should be refrigerated at 2-8°C.
Inspect the solution before each use. Bacteriostatic water should always be completely clear and colorless. Do not use it if you notice cloudiness, discoloration, floating particles, or if the rubber stopper appears damaged. Also discard if more than 28 days have passed since the first needle puncture, regardless of appearance.
Peer-reviewed research
Bacteriostatic water is sold as a research supply. It is intended for laboratory and research use only. Not for direct human injection or therapeutic use. Always follow your institutional protocols and applicable regulations.
Insert the syringe needle into the BAC water vial and draw the desired amount. Common reconstitution volumes are 1mL or 2mL per peptide vial.
Insert the needle into the peptide vial and gently release the water against the inside wall of the vial. Do NOT inject directly onto the powder.
Let the vial sit for 1-2 minutes. The peptide should dissolve on its own. If needed, gently roll the vial between your palms — never shake.
Once reconstituted, store the peptide vial in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (36-46°F). Use within 28 days of reconstitution.
Produced in FDA-registered, cGMP-compliant facilities

After first needle puncture, the sterility clock starts. Mark the date on the vial and discard after 28 days.
